Oma, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Oma

Oma means grandmother or mother-in-law, and she celebrated her 90th birthday at the house next to the brewery. For that occasion I made a watercolour, which was scanned. That way it can be enlarged or reduced for a banner or a menu card.

Wedding of Birgit Herteleer, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Wedding of Birgit Herteleer

Offering a painting of a special day is sometimes a better bet than a bottle of champagne. This was the wedding of a niece, Birgit Herteleer, a familiar face on Flemish commercial television.

Andries Van den Abeele, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Andries Van den Abeele

Andries Van den Abeele was a politician from Bruges whom I met during my year studying monuments at the College of Europe. As a present for the reception, I made this much-loved painting. Note the coat of arms of Bruges: people from Bruges still love coats of arms, flags, weapons and monuments, preferably old ones. The technique is watercolour on canvas. It takes a long time, but the many transparent layers give it a special transparency.

Grandchild, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Grandchild

Painting a grandchild should be easier because it is a snapshot, and if it is sleeping, that makes it even easier.

Model, Paletje, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Model, Paletje

A model posing for our group, Paletje. We had a neighbour posing for us. This painting won first prize at a painting festival.

Sport, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Sport

A special exhibition about sport was held in a garage in Ghent. This painting is acrylic on canvas.

Famous People of Roeselare, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Famous People of Roeselare

With Paletje we mostly painted nude models, but once we had an exhibition about famous people from Roeselare, who sat for us. The exhibition was in De Spil, the cultural centre of the town.

Terminus, Poperinge, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Terminus, Poperinge

Terminus is a well-known restaurant in Poperinge, near France. The owner, Peter Verheyde, is a great wine lover and beer lover. Arabier included, with its typical foam.

Dirk Van Dijck, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Dirk Van Dijck

Dirk Van Dijck, a descendant of the Van Dijck family of painters from Antwerp and owner of the Kulminator pub, with his friends enjoying their favourite beer as at a last supper. Watercolour on canvas.

Jef Pollee, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Jef Pollee

When the model does not show up one evening, we are the model. Here is our secretary, Jef Pollee.

Bolivian Girl, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Bolivian Girl

Acrylic on canvas, a painting of a Bolivian girl.

Moes, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Moes

Moes is the mother of the painter. She preferred to send him to the music academy instead of the art school, causing a real trauma.

Michel Moortgat, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Michel Moortgat

Watercolour on canvas, 70 × 70 cm, commissioned. It shows Michel Moortgat enjoying a Chouffe and remembering his takeover, (already!) 20 years ago. The idea of making a portrait came from Chris Bauweraerts, co-founder of brewery La Chouffe, obviously a lover of beer and art.

Rose Blancqart, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Rose Blancqart

Watercolour portrait of Rose Blancqart, a former brewer, offered for her birthday by Chris Bauweraerts. The first attempt was on watercolour paper, but the photograph to start from was not the right one, nor was the painting. This one was better, and the original painting can be seen at the Liefmans visitor centre at the brewery in Oudenaarde, Belgium. 70 × 70 cm.

Maya and Thierry, portrait by Kris Herteleer

Maya and Thierry

Wedding picture of Maya and Thierry, also in watercolour on canvas. This technique uses many layers of transparent paint, which takes a long time (every layer has to be dry) but gives delicate colour and transparency.

The Last Supper, portrait by Kris Herteleer

The Last Supper

A large canvas of 1.20 m by 2.50 m shows the Last Supper: a surreal view of pub owner Dirk of the Kulminator in Antwerp, with his friends enjoying their favourite beer at their last supper. Esen, Belgium.
